The study “Cross Reality in Germany 2020” by the TH Köln (Zabel / Heisenberg / Telkmann) examines for the first time nationwide the structure, potential and needs of virtual, mixed and augmented reality companies, collectively: XR companies. The study was commissioned by Mediennetzwerk.NRW in 2020.

Location Study – Audiovisual Media in NRW

The location study on behalf of Mediennetzwerk.NRW primarily examines the production and distribution of the audiovisual, digital media industries in North Rhine-Westphalia. These include companies and other players in the fields of television & online video, film, games and VR / AR / MR as well as radio & online audio.
The aim of the location study is to capture the status quo of the media location NRW from the point of view of audiovisual digital companies. In addition, the study analyzes possible options for action, how one can further strengthen and develop the media location NRW and actively contribute to networking.

The study was published in 2019 and is available on request from Mediennetzwerk.NRW.


XR technology is no longer reserved for specialists, but is finding its way into industry, creation and entertainment: with 360-degree videos and VR games, in product design, as an aid to orientation in space, for training simulations and virtual conferences. The study was commissioned by Mediennetzwerk.NRW in 2018 and continued in spring 2019.
